Plan well:


Plan your time and commitments well, you cant bias one thing over another if both are a priority. Spend some time understanding and experimenting with different schedules and plans to match what you enjoy. You will be able to better plan for your time if you are aware of it. Make a note of this time in your schedule so you know how much time you have for study and assignments. With an organized schedule you will feel less overwhelmed and less likely to procrastinate, leading to increased motivation and success both on the court and in the classroom. Set a reward system up for yourself, eg: Study for 3 hours and then play for 1 hour or complete your assignments so you can participate in an upcoming game. If you have something to look forward to, the process gets much easier!

Use GOAL setting:


Most of the time you may set a goal but not achieve it due to a variety of reasons like procrastination, priority, boredom, etc. The best way to complete all the things on your to-do list is to create SMART goals. SMART goals, which are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely, provide each goal with an easy-to-follow structure. Instead of just wanting to improve their scores, SMART goals will assist you outline exactly how one can obtain an A on their next test and play their best in the match.

Break these goals down into smaller, practical tasks to create a plan for daily activity. A dynamic approach is ensured by regularly tracking progress and altering strategies as needed. It is important to take breaks every once in a while and schedule them in a way that you can recharge for the week ahead. Maybe take off on weekends, meet your friends, do things you enjoy, rejeunvate, rebuild the energy and go back to routine on Monday! Cultivate a hobby you can practice on those days, maybe read/write/sing/dance/travel/cook, or do anything under the sun as long as you have fun!

Student-athletes frequently feel bad about taking time off. You may feel obligated to be productive at all times of the day. Resist your urge and give yourself some much-needed rest, relaxation, recharge, and reset time.

Be flexible:


A lot of us are set in our ways aren’t we, we want the books a certain way, our food a particular taste, sleep/eat at fixed times, and so on! This may not always be doable and result in you feeling frustrated and distracted. If you end up practicing all day then you may need to study for an hour after your bedtime. Don’t feel out of place, acknowledge the change of schedule and the importance of studying that one hour.

By recognizing the value of breaks, we prioritize self-care and establish a sustainable balance between work, obligations, and personal rejuvenation, resulting in long-term satisfaction and achievement.

There is always help available as long as you accept it. Most universities and schools offer extra classes, tutors, practice lectures, etc to help you prepare for your upcoming exams or any trouble you may face in academics. There are student communities and tuition classes as well for those who want to work together and grow. The guidance counselor at your high school might also be a great resource. They can assist you in determining how to balance both school and extracurricular activities, and they can connect you with resources if you need them.
