July 2023

The prospect of leaving India to pursue their sporting aspirations may be both exciting and intimidating for youngsters who are passionate about sports.

International sports camps provide a wonderful opportunity to combine two amazing experiences: seeing the world and improving one’s athletic abilities.

These camps offer a special setting for young athletes to absorb other cultures, learn from illustrious instructors, and socialize with like-minded people from other backgrounds.

You see… as per the data obtained by The Bridge, the Indian government has spent a whopping INR 77.46 crore since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to help the country’s athletes train and get in shape for medal contention at the Birmingham Games.

This expenditure includes a massive INR 42 crore for Foreign exposure trips across sports,

So yes. The need to have Indian athletes with international exposure is absolutely there!

International sports camps

With that established… we will now explore the numerous advantages of participating in foreign sports camps in this blog, as well as how they might change Indian kids’ lives.

So, let’s get to it!

1] Cutting-Edge Facilities and Resources:

According to a survey released in July 2022, about 17 billion INR was spent on sports by the Indian government, and at the same time, China’s total public spending on sports, tourism, media, and culture came to around 398.6 billion yuan.

Which is a lot more!

For a nation of over 1.25 billion, India’s sports infrastructure isn’t palatable.

Modern amenities and resources that may be lacking or insufficient at other camps can frequently be found in international sports camps. These camps make investments in cutting-edge athletic technology, rehabilitation facilities, and sports science assistance.

Indian athletes stand to gain from having access to such cutting-edge tools that may help with injury avoidance, performance enhancement, and general athletic growth.

2] Networking Opportunities:

International Sports Camps serve as excellent networking platforms for Indian athletes. Engaging with athletes, coaches, and sports professionals from diverse backgrounds can create lasting connections and opportunities for collaboration.

These networks can prove invaluable in terms of exposure to international competitions, scholarships, sponsorships, and even potential training or playing opportunities abroad.

3] Cultural Exchange and Personal Development:

Indian sportsmen who attend international sports camps are exposed to other cultures and lifestyles. The cultural interchange can be beneficial, fostering a more global viewpoint and comprehension of the world.

Athletes acquire important life skills including flexibility, communication, and collaboration in addition to their athletic abilities. On their entire character and resiliency, both on and off the pitch, this personal development may have a significant bearing.

4] Exposure to varied playing environments:

International Sports Camps are frequently organised in numerous places throughout the globe, each with its own special temperature, topography, and playing environments.

Athletes from India are forced to modify their playing styles and methods as a result of their exposure to various situations. Such adaptability is a valuable skill, especially for athletes aspiring to compete at global events where conditions can vary drastically.

5] Enhanced Mental Toughness:

Did you know… 35% of elite athletes suffer from disordered eating, burnout, depression, or anxiety, while only 10% of all college athletes with known mental health conditions seek care from a mental health professional.

The competitive pressure and hard competition at international sports camps may help Indian players strengthen their mental toughness. They gain the ability to control their emotions, stay calm under pressure, and maintain their composure.

Conclusion

This mental toughness, which an athlete develops in international settings, may be significant in high-stakes tournaments and is essential to their success.

Cheering their win

Indian students have a wonderful opportunity to combine their love of sports with their desire to travel the globe by taking part in foreign sports camps. The experience encourages character development, cultural awareness, and personal growth in addition to improving athletic abilities.

These camps offer a special opportunity for young athletes to compete as well as make connections with like-minded people from across the world.

As more Indian students take advantage of this chance, they help sports develop not only in India but also on a global scale. They become ambassadors for the value of sports in advancing international peace and understanding by encouraging a global perspective and enjoying a variety of experiences.

So, for those with dreams of excelling in their sport and discovering the world, international sports camps are the perfect gateway to an extraordinary journey of self-discovery and achievement!

Sports Analytics

Can you imagine your child, or you work for your favorite IPL teams or  National team for any sport you love- Cricket, Football, Kabaddi, Hockey, etc. The list is endless and so are the opportunities in the field of Sports Analytics. Sports analytics is growing more popular in India as sports teams and organizations recognize the value of data-driven decision-making in boosting performance. While the use of analytics in sports is still in its early stages in India, it has steadily gained traction in recent years. Data is collected from different sources, including wearable technology, video analysis, and statistical databases, to analyze and anticipate player performance and team strategy.

For example, IPL clubs use statistics to evaluate individual players’ performance, such as batting and bowling averages, strike rates, and scoring patterns. They also analyze opposing teams’ performance, including their strengths and weaknesses and utilize this information to develop game plans and strategies. Furthermore, analytics can be used to evaluate match factors like pitch conditions, weather, and location in order to make informed team selection and strategy decisions.

Data allows teams and organizations to track performance, predict outcomes, and make better decisions on the field. Want to know what play to run on fourth down in a football game? Analyze the statistics. Are you debating whether your pitcher should pitch another inning? Check the statistics. Although players continue to win games, data allows coaches to put them in the best position to succeed.

It is a rapidly expanding field altering how teams and organizations make choices for their players. Teams can gain a competitive advantage and give a more engaging experience to spectators by leveraging data to get insights into player performance, game strategy, and fan engagement. While there are some difficulties with sports analytics, the benefits are apparent. It will be intriguing to observe how the sector evolves and how it changes the world of sports.

Sports analysts work in various fields- Media companies, College and university teams, Management companies, etc. The road to becoming an analyst is doable for all kinds of children; the opportunities are endless and rewarding if you love sports. The skills required are some you can learn and develop, while some are inherent. You can always learn those skills and get better than the next person. Let’s get down to it:

Sports analytics

The average income for a sports analyst in India is roughly Rs. 7,00,000 per year, according to websites such as AmbitionBox and Glassdoor. Data analytics is a rapidly expanding field, and its use will continue to expand. The application of analytics will grow exponentially as teams and organizations continue to benefit from the insights it gives. Analytics is a vital tool for sports companies, whether it is to improve performance, create a better viewer experience, or reduce the chance of injury.

Of course, this varies depending on criteria such as experience, geography, and the type of company for which you work.

If you wish to work for a top-tier sports organization, such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), you should expect to earn far more than the average. According to AmbitionBox, sports analysts in the IPL can earn up to Rs. 20,00,000 per year! That’s a pretty good deal, especially given how prestigious it would be to work for such a well-known company.

Sports analytics positions are available with sports clubs, leagues, and professional firms. Graduates can also look for work with third-party suppliers who specialize in offering these services to sports firms. Sports analysts are employed by news organizations such as ESPN and Sports Illustrated to assist with reporting and analysis, which is used to create on-air and online content for viewers. The NBA relies substantially on data analytics, with almost all clubs employing full-time Sports Analysts to assist with coaching and front-office decisions. The Golden State Warriors are a great example of a franchise that has used Sports Analytics to boost player performance.

Even if you’re just starting, you may still make decent money as a sports analyst. According to Glassdoor, entry-level analysts might earn roughly Rs. 3,00,000 per year, which is still a good starting salary. Furthermore, as you gain more experience and develop your skills, you can expect your salary to rise.

You’ll need to be well-versed in the sport you’re analyzing, as well as possess excellent analytical abilities and attention to detail. It’s important to remember that working in sports analysis isn’t all about the money. It’s a labor of love that demands a lot of hard work and passion for your job! However, if you are up for the challenge, it can be an extremely rewarding career.

In this post, you’ll learn about
Communication
Adaptability
Creativity
Judgement
Problem Solving

With respect to the prediction made in 2015, stating that 45% of positions would cease to exist by 2025, it becomes vital to equip oneself with the essential skills to thrive in an ever-evolving world. As the sports industry faces unprecedented changes, mastering these key skills can strengthen your career and ensure success, regardless of the uncertainties that lie ahead.

Let’s take a look at the top 5 skills

sports Industry

Skills that will help you work in the sports field! And if at any point you feel the lack of these, then worry not. There are many ways you can learn to cultivate them and work on yourself!

Communication:

One of the important skills is communication, it’s not just how you deliver information, but there is also an element of how you receive information. If the coach/athlete manager/ athlete / or their team asks for something in particular in regard to their game or form or image, then it’s essential you provide them with that. Providing inaccurate information can be detrimental to your working relations and lead to a considerable waste of time. Drawing conclusions or making assumptions can significantly hinder communication, as these inferences may not always be accurate. If you ever feel in doubt then ask twice or haven’t understood a certain point then make sure they know. It is always better to confirm something rather than produce the wrong work.

Effective communication involves not only selecting our words thoughtfully to ensure comprehension but also considering other influencing factors. Nonverbal cues such as body language, eye contact, facial expressions, and gestures significantly influence how our messages are perceived by others. When we lack certainty in what we’re saying or resort to falsehoods, we may unconsciously display closed body language or cover our mouths with our hands. Doubt can manifest through our facial expressions, and our gestures can either strengthen or weaken the impact of our statements.

Adaptability:

Being able to adjust and be flexible in today’s environment of constant change is essential for success. Individuals may negotiate obstacles and grab possibilities that come with change by embracing technological improvements, economic changes, and changing social dynamics.

One’s potential to succeed in the workplaces of the future, which are always undergoing transition, might be hampered by having a fixed mindset, which holds that one’s qualities and attributes are unchanging. On the other hand, those who have a growth mindset thrive in dynamic circumstances, viewing difficulties as chances for learning and welcoming the chance to conquer hurdles along the road. It is obvious that having a development mindset ensures success in a company that thrives on change and unpredictability.

The skills required for success are evolving along with the evolution of modern organizational systems. Everyone must cultivate a mindset and acquire skills that enable them to confidently accept constant evolution and adapt to all aspects of work and business.

Creativity:

Creativity plays a pivotal role in your work, especially when it comes to rehabilitating athletes. Each athlete you encounter may present the same injury, but their unique disabilities make their cases entirely distinct. There’s no handbook or online resource that can provide the perfect rehab exercises tailored to each individual. You may often encounter situations where certain positions or exercises are not feasible for a particular athlete. That’s where creativity becomes crucial as you must devise individualized solutions to address their specific needs effectively.

It’s essential to understand that intelligence and creativity are not always synonymous.  In contrast, a creative approach involves exploring various possibilities and thinking outside the box to find the best-fit solutions for each athlete’s unique circumstances. Similarly, if you are a marketer or sports event planner then you need to do your best to make everything you post/ plan creative! Got to keep those muscles flexing!

 Judgement:

You know, the timing of what we say and do may make or break a situation.  It’s like having a superpower that can control how our interactions and discussions turn out in the end.

Have you ever experienced a situation when you said something and immediately regretted it? We’ve all been there, I guess.  Saying the wrong thing at the wrong time or interpreting the timing incorrectly can have severe or extremely uncomfortable consequences. That is just a sign that you need to improve your judgment skills, and yes it does not matter what job you do in the sports industry, having good judgment skills can go a long way!

Let’s discuss emotional intelligence now; that sounds complex, doesn’t it? Well, it’s just a cool way of stating that we have empathy for other people. When we have a solid understanding of emotional intelligence, we grow into social detectives who can read a room and pick up on the vibes people are sending out. It’s like being a mood ninja!

If you are planning on working in the industry, then we highly recommend bringing your ‘A’ judgment game!

Problem Solving:

You know, our world is getting more and more complicated as we zoom into the future. As humans, we like to make things simple so we can understand them better. But hey, as things get more complex, it’s not always easy to keep it simple.

Here’s the thing: being able to tackle tricky problems by taking a step back, imagining the steps needed, and breaking down the complexity into manageable bits is a super valuable skill for the businesses of tomorrow. And that’s not all! If you can also explain these complex things in a way that everyone can understand easily, you’ll become a rockstar in the boardroom!

So, in this ever-changing world, learning to handle complexity and simplify it for others will make you a real star. Keep it cool, and you’ll shine bright!

Sports Nutrition and its Evolution

Sports Nutrition

Ever heard ‘you are what you eat’, well it couldn’t be more apt for athletes! What they consume daily is regularly monitored and changed in a way that suits their body type. You can’t ask a weightlifting player to eat only 2000 calories every day, just like you can’t ask a runner to eat 5000 calories!

Sports nutrition in layman’s terms essentially means a well-balanced diet and plan that will help increase one’s athletic performance. Achieving optimal performance in sports often requires providing the body with the right balance of nutrients, fluids, and food types such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and fiber. This aims to maximize energy levels, support muscle recovery, and enhance overall athletic performance. While commonly associated with endurance and strength-based sports, this principle applies to various athletic disciplines.

Athletes have always been scrutinized by their coaches, parents, or colleagues over what they should and should not eat. However, such information/advice does not come from individuals, but rather from medical study findings.

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) provided data compiled from numerous sources on recommended nutrition for athletes, stating, “that physical activity, athletic performance, and recovery from exercise are enhanced by optimal nutrition.”As a result, athletes should carefully examine their daily food intake to ensure that their bodies are obtaining the nutrients they require to repair, maintain, and develop muscle.

 Did you know?

Sports nutrition is also referred to as exercise nutrition. Like the connections between food and disease or food and infant physiology, the relationship between food and sports is important.  It is defined as “the application of nutrition principles to improve training, recovery, and performance.”

But why is sports nutrition important?

Athletes and sportsmen place a high value on sports nutrition since it has a direct impact on their performance and overall well-being.  Sports nutrition plays a critical role in boosting athletes’ abilities and optimizing their potential by identifying and addressing their specific nutritional demands.

  1. Energy and endurance: Proper diet, with an appropriate mix of carbs, proteins, and fats, gives the energy and fuel required for athletic activities. It aids sportsmen in maintaining peak stamina and endurance throughout training and competition.
  1. Performance Optimization: Sports nutrition focuses on determining the optimal balance and proportion of nutrients to enhance athletic performance. Athletes can improve their performance by providing the body with what it needs at the right times.
  1. Sport-Specific Plan: Each sport has its own set of demands, and sports nutrition takes these into account when creating customized nutrition plans.  This personalized method takes into account athletes’ individual dietary requirements and performance goals in their respective sports.
  1. Sports nutrition recognizes the importance of micronutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, in promoting muscle development, improving performance, preserving overall health, and enabling injury recovery.
  2. Optimal Supplementation: Sports nutritionists help athletes with choosing and incorporating nutritional supplements that can improve their performance, address nutrient shortages, and support their demands.

 Did you know?

That carbohydrate loading, a strategy of increasing carbohydrate intake before endurance events, can help maximize glycogen stores and improve endurance performance?

But do you wonder what the difference is between the type of nutrition and diet athletes consumed in the early 1900s or so? Was being an athlete as simple as it is now with the variety of supplements, sports drinks, etc available?

THEN: Athletes did not overthink their diets years ago. They ate whatever calories they could find. The athlete’s intake was prioritized over the nutrients it offered.

NOW: There is a major split in the ideal overall diet for today’s athletes: meat versus no meat, carbs versus keto. Regardless of the divide, athletes realize that nutrition is individualized and tailored to certain performance goals. While the discussion over the ‘optimal’ diet will continue, the most significant modern breakthrough in sports nutrition is how individualized things are becoming. Athletes can focus on addressing their unique needs by using personal sports nutritionists, apps, digital gadgets, genetic testing, and vitamin/mineral panels.

So much has changed in the evolution of the field since the early and mid-twentieth centuries. The majority of findings developed were warmly embraced and used correctly by sporting communities. Some of the findings, however, were twisted for the wrong reasons, leading to an increase in the usage of steroids and performance-enhancing drugs. The advancement of technology has also had a significant impact on the advancement of sports nutrition. And like any other field, there have been many pros and cons of this change.

THEN: In the early 1900s, it was typical for athletes to forgo food and drink during competitions.  Personal opinion, instinct, and superstition dominated knowledge about what to eat, and there were no systematic norms. Athletes frequently experienced race-ending GI problems.

NOW: The benefit of the mid-training intake of carbohydrates was formally recognized in the 1930s. This revelation led to endurance athletes reducing their intake of animal proteins before competition in favor of high-carbohydrate diets. Rice, pasta, and potatoes became widespread staples, and the development of Gatorade in the 1960s accelerated the process even more. This was a big breakthrough in sports nutrition since it offered players a science-backed energy source to take throughout training. This also emphasized the importance of electrolytes and hydration needs during sports.

With time there has been significant evolution in all fields related to sports and nutrition. Athletes are now more aware of what they put into their bodies and how it affects them. They have a variety of resources to help them manage their diets and regime. If you are an athlete or are working your way there, then we strongly recommend you consult a sports nutritionist.  A well-formulated nutrition plan can help increase your recovery, better your performance, and ensure you are fit around the clock!

Consumers in the Millennial and Gen Z generations are increasingly interested in the role of nutrition in promoting health and well-being, and their purchasing habits are defining the future of the active nutrition market. The demand for protein bars and powder has skyrocketed with everyone feeling the need to consume it. Individuals who are not into sports must consult a nutritionist or a recognized doctor who can guide them regarding the same.

We hope this blog has been resourceful to you and helped you understand the value sports nutrition holds in an athlete’s life. To know more about anything and everything related to your sport, from coaches to academies and careers in this field contact us for more information!
